Fitzgibbon and Cox win Bronze at World Championship to book Australia a place at 2012 London Paralympic Games
The Australian Sailing Team’s Skud 18 crew of Daniel Fitzgibbon and Rachael Cox has won the Bronze medal at the 2010 IFDS World Championship in The Netherlands and in doing so has qualified Australia for the 2012 London Paralympic Games.
Fitzgibbon and Cox were the star performers on the final day of the regatta winning both Skud 18 races to consolidate their third position and put plenty of pressure on the two crews ahead of them with Great Britain winning Gold and America Silver.
“Rachael and I had a really good day overall with two race wins and good breeze, we’re very happy with how we went today,” said Fitzgibbon. “Both races were in pressure around the 20 knot range, we had good speed, good starts and sailed really well to win both races.”
“We were a bit disappointed with how we started the regatta but to finish the way we did means that what we are working on is going well for us,” he said. “The best thing about today is that we qualified Australia for the 2012 London Paralympic Games in the two person keel boat class so it looks like Australia is going to London!”

Daniel Fitzgibbon and Rachael Cox are finding their previous form.
Australia’s four Paralympic crews have all had positive results on a shortened day three of the 2010 ISDF World Championships in Medemblik, Holland.
The Australian Sailing Team Skud 18 crew of Daniel Fitgibbon and Rachael Cox led the way, winning their one and only race of the day to surge up the leader board to be third overall.
The 2008 Beijing Paralympic Games medalists are competing together for their first time since winning their Silver medal in China and are beginning to find their rhythm on the water again.
“We had a god day today with a good win so everything is looking up,” said Fitzgibbon. “We came off the pin end in the day’s only race and had a really good start and held the lead until the finish, we got the advantage early and held on for the whole race.”
“Rachael and I are feeling good, we’re confident and are getter better and better after a bit of a slow start to the regatta,” he said.
The Australian Sailing Development Squad crew of Steven Thomas and Nick Brownie has finished an impressive 10th at the 2010 49er European Championship in Poland.
Making the performance of the West Australian crew all the more impressive is the fact that the European Championship was just their second event together, after debuting as a team at the ISAF Sailing World Cup in Germany last month.
Thomas and Brownie steadily climbed the ladder throughout the week and heading into the penultimate day the pair was in 17th place. After the final four fleet races they booked themselves a position in the medal race with two race wins, a fifth, and a 16th in a strong Gold fleet.
The young crew then finished ninth in the final medal race to end the regatta tenth overall, with Great Britain’s Chris Draper and Peter Greenhalgh crowned the 2010 49er European Champions.
After the completion of the round robin group stage we failed to progress to the quarter final round. With such a tough format it was always going to be difficult to progress further with past winners including Peter Gilmour, Bjorn Hansen and Mattias Rahm also bowing out.
"It has been a very difficult couple of days. The first three races of the group stage were against some of the toughest opponents in Torvar Mirsky, Ian Wiliams and Ben Ainslie. We really struggled for speed against these guys in the windy condtions, I think this put a fair dent in our confidence for the remaining races which showed in our results." After many months work and even more months of having a terrible website, Boating Hardware Prosail is finally proud to announce the launch of their new web page.
Please have a look around, there is a comments section if there are any changes you think would help the site. You will probably also notice that there are no prices or catalogues on the site. This is because we are a speciality chandlery and putting the 2 filing cabinets full of suppliers catalogues and price lists would take more time than we have.
The site is designed as a brochure of what we do here and I think represents us well. If would like any further info, catalogues or pricing please use the website contact info.
This is the first place the site is being launched as FD support means alot to us and it makes sense to give all you guys the first look!!!
