RPYC and the Freodoctor would like to see a large contingent of FD members (and any other WA sailors) compete in this event, which is in its third year. As the title suggests, its open to Open, Womens and Youth. You don't have to be a rock star, just get a team together and compete! First place in each division is invited to the respective Australian Championships.

You have until the 17th of July to get your nomination in. The link to the Notice of Race is here
The team has just competed in the Toyota Sopot Match Racing Qualifier (Grade 3) in Sopot, Poland, finishing in 3rd place.
We arrived in Poland on Thursday ahead of registration and training on Friday. Tim Shuwalow joined us for this event on main trim. The first day of racing on Saturday saw the fleet split into 2 groups, we drew 'group b', we managed to remain undefeated in our 5 races to go through and qualify first for the semi-finals. The wind was very inconsistent ranging from 5-15knots with 30degree shifts. We were happy with our result but acknowledged that we still had a lot to improve.
The 505 states was run last weekend at RFBYC with a solid turnout ready to face some challenging conditions (read FREEZING cold). With the forecast over 20 knots for both days it was looking like classic 505 conditions. The competition was set to be fierce at the top with defending champion Peter Chappell and Sam Gill on The Fish sporting afresh coat of paint and refit, while Nick Davis and Mike Duffield on Tenzing Norgay have spent countless hours overhauling all of the systems on their boat while also having completed some training in the lead up to the states, which is almost unheard of in the 505’s. Matt Hansen was also sporting some new equipment with a trial carbon boom and kite pole after the class voted on a change to allow the use of carbon boom and pole.
Royal Freshwater Bay Yacht Club has received an invitation for the youth match racing team of Peter Nicholas and his crew Jasper “Fang” Warren and Tom Johnson to compete in the 42nd Annual Governor’s Cup run by the Balboa Yacht Club in Newport Beach, California.
This is the first time that a crew representing RFBYC has been invited to this prestigious event. The Governor’s Cup is a youth match racing regatta for under 20 year olds. This year the selection committee has had a record number of applicants and obviously looked favourably on the standard of the package put together by our three young sailors.
Twelve teams will be competing in 2008, including another Australian team from the CYC in Sydney as well as international teams from Brazil, NZ, UK, US Virgin Islands and six teams from mainland USA.
The regatta is sailed in purpose-designed “Governor’s Cup 21’s” with a crew of three. The RFBYC boys have been training in the BW8’s and driving the boats 3-up as hard as normally happens with a full crew of 5.
The event runs from 16-20 July, 2008 and a comprehensive coverage of the Governor’s Cup can be found at www.balboayacht club.com
After a perfect week in Marstrand, Matthias Rahm has been crowned champion of Match Cup Sweden , defeating us 3-0.
We were chosen by Matthiu Richard in the semi finals, as he had won the Round Robin stage with 9 wins and 2 losses. So we had our work cut out for us from the start, while the “Swedish Derby” of Magnus Holmburg and Matthias Rahm ran alongside our race.
QINGDAO, China (AFP) — World class sailors are rarely afraid of water but the bright green algae that adorns the surface of their Beijing Olympics venue has left many boaters fearing for their health.
Apologies for the lateness in getting this to you guys, needless to say there were a couple of false starts from the man with the pen.
General feeling after this regatta was that with the right ability to pick the correct side of the course and get their first, we could be world champs. No hard feelings though, it’s a very nice place to sail and be in general. After a few tune-up/practice sails, its was evident this was going to shifty. The breeze shifted 40-50 degrees then on the last day of practice, just as welcome to Chicago from Hewy, shifted 180 twice then settled into a seabreeze: “no worries, we’ll be fine, we sail easterlies all the time!”
Well done to Torvar Mirsky and his West Oz team who placed 2nd in the Match Cup in Sweden. Other events may have more prizemoney, but this is the event all matchracers want to win. Read on for the story from the event website
After 7 long hours on the water, the four semi finalists emerged at last, producing two Swedes, a Frenchman and an Australian.
Three of the four Quarterfinals race offs went to the last race, with only Matthiu Richard and his French Sailing Team displaying true dominance over last year’s Match Cup Sweden winner, Bjorn Hansen in a 3-0 upset.
